How this works, and when it is wrong
A lossy encoder throws away everything above a cutoff frequency, and that cutoff survives being re‑wrapped as FLAC. So a “lossless” file with a hard shelf at 16 kHz was an MP3 first.
It can be wrong. A genuinely dark master, an old recording, or a track with no high‑frequency content looks the same to the analysis. That is why the suspicion score also measures each track against your own collection rather than a fixed threshold — if everything you own rolls off at 18 kHz, that is how you like your music mastered, not two thousand transcodes. Treat this as a list of tracks worth listening to, not a verdict.
