Where Playproof comes from
I work in IT, and I've always loved music. I've also always liked MP3 players: the little devices, the folders, a library that just works.
When I started DJing, I found that a lot of it isn't about the music. Playlists break when you move your music to a new drive. “Lossless” files turn out not to be. A deck won't read a stick. A great night gets recorded, but nobody wrote down what was played.
So I did what IT people do, and wrote a small tool for each problem. They made my gigs a lot calmer. But they were made for me: a black window, a command, and you had to know the right options.
Why it's for everyone now
Most DJs don't work in IT, and they shouldn't have to. Knowing about file formats and stick layouts has nothing to do with reading a room or picking the next track. Nobody teaches this part of the job.
Playproof is those tools, rebuilt so you don't need to know any of it. Each tool tells you what it found in plain words, and does the technical part for you. When there's a choice to make, it explains what the choice means.
Why it runs on your computer
A DJ's library is personal: years of digging, edits nobody else has. I didn't want to make something that asks you to upload it. Playproof works on your files where they are, in your own browser. Your music never leaves your computer, and there's no account to make.
Who's behind it
Playproof is made by NETTVIS AS, a small company. In practice, that's me. I test every tool on my own music before it reaches you. If something doesn't work, or there's a part of gig prep you'd like Playproof to handle, write to hello@playproof.app. It comes straight to me.
