Terms of Sale and Use

These terms apply when you use Playproof or buy a licence for it. They are written to be read, not to be impressive. If anything here is unclear, write to playproof@nettvis.no and we will explain it.

1. Who you are dealing with

Playproof is made and operated by:

In these terms, “we” and “us” mean NETTVIS AS. “You” means the person using Playproof or buying a licence.

2. Who sells you the licence

Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy, who act as merchant of record. This means Lemon Squeezy is the seller for the payment itself and is responsible for collecting and remitting any sales tax or VAT that applies where you live. Their terms apply to the payment transaction.

We grant you the licence to use the software, and we are responsible for the software itself. If something is wrong with Playproof, contact us. If something is wrong with a payment, either of us can help.

3. What Playproof does

Playproof runs in your web browser. It reads music files from a folder you choose, converts the ones your chosen playback device cannot read, and writes the results to a destination folder you choose. It can also analyse the audio and report tracks that appear to have been converted from a lossy source.

All processing happens on your own computer. Your audio files are not uploaded to us or to anyone else. This is described in detail in the Privacy Notice.

4. What you need to run it

You need a current web browser. To let Playproof write directly to a folder or a USB drive, you need a browser that supports the File System Access API: at the time of writing that means Chrome, Edge, Brave or another Chromium-based browser. Firefox and Safari can be used, but there Playproof gives you a ZIP file to save instead.

Converting a large library takes time and uses your computer's processor. Speed depends on your machine, the number of tracks and the output format.

5. Free use and licensed use

Playproof can be used without payment. Without a licence it converts up to 25 tracks at a time. Every device profile and the full quality analysis are available in the free version.

A licence removes that limit. It costs NOK 49 including any applicable tax, paid once. There is no subscription and no recurring charge.

6. Your licence

When you buy a licence, you may:

• use Playproof without the track limit, for as long as it exists;
• use it on every computer and browser that you personally own or use;
• use it for commercial work, including paid DJ performances.

The licence key does not expire. There is no activation limit and no device count. If you get a new computer, enter the same key again.

Please do not publish your key or share it with people who have not paid. It is what funds the work.

7. The source code is public

Playproof's source code is published openly and is licensed separately under the MIT licence. That licence governs the code. These terms govern the service we run at playproof.app and the licence key you buy from us.

We are telling you this plainly because it affects what you are paying for. You are not paying for a technical restriction that cannot be removed. You are paying for the product, for the work that went into it, and for the work that keeps it going.

8. What we promise

Playproof should do what this website says it does. If it does not, tell us and we will either fix it or refund you.

Where you are a consumer, you have rights under the Norwegian Act on Consumer Purchases of Digital Content and Digital Services, and under the consumer law of the country you live in if that gives you more. Nothing in these terms reduces those rights. In particular, you are entitled to software that matches its description and works as a reasonable person would expect.

9. What we do not promise

Playproof converts audio. It cannot guarantee that a particular piece of hardware will accept a particular file, because manufacturers change firmware and some devices behave in undocumented ways. The device profiles reflect published specifications and our own testing.

The audio quality analysis is a measurement, not a verdict. A track that is genuinely dark, old, or quiet at high frequencies can resemble a converted file. Treat the results as a list of tracks worth listening to.

Always keep your original files. Playproof writes copies and does not modify your source folder, but no software is a substitute for a backup.

10. Limits on our liability

We are liable for damage we cause you intentionally or through gross negligence, and for anything that cannot be limited by law. Beyond that, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for your licence.

We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost income or lost bookings. If you are a consumer, this paragraph does not restrict any right you have under mandatory consumer law.

12. If something goes wrong

Write to playproof@nettvis.no. We read every message and aim to reply within a few working days. Tell us what you expected, what happened, and which browser and device you were using.

If we cannot resolve it between us and you are a consumer in Norway, you can bring the matter to the Norwegian Consumer Council (Forbrukerrådet), which offers free mediation. Consumers elsewhere in the EEA can contact their national consumer body. The European Commission's online dispute resolution platform closed in July 2025 and is no longer available.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product changes. The version in force when you bought your licence is the one that applies to that purchase. Changes are not applied backwards to your disadvantage.

14. Governing law

Norwegian law applies. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory rules in your own country of residence, and you may bring proceedings there.
