Playproof

OneLibrary and Device Library

Your stick holds more than music. Your DJ software also puts your playlists, cue points and beat grids on it, in what's called a library. Newer and older Pioneer players read different kinds, and a stick with the wrong kind looks fine until you're in the booth.

Each player reads only one kind. Watch out for the CDJ-3000 and the CDJ-3000X: they look almost the same, but the CDJ-3000 reads Device Library and the CDJ-3000X reads OneLibrary. (A CDJ-3000 update, firmware 3.30, briefly added OneLibrary, but it was withdrawn.)

Denon players and the Numark Mixstream use neither. They get your playlists from Engine DJ.

No error, just no playlists

A player that can't read the library on your stick doesn't show an error. It shows your folders and plays the tracks, but your playlists, cue points and beat grids are missing. Playproof's stick check shows which library your stick has, and warns you if your player can't read it.

One stick for every booth

Not sure if the venue has CDJ-3000s or CDJ-3000Xs? Put both libraries on the stick. Only rekordbox can do this:

  1. Use rekordbox 7.2.13 or newer. For the CDJ-1500X and XDJ-AN, you need 7.2.16 or newer.
  2. New stick: set it up as FAT32 (see Setting up a USB stick), then export your playlists from rekordbox. When rekordbox offers to convert to OneLibrary, say yes. The stick now has both.
  3. A stick you already use: in rekordbox, right-click OneLibrary under the stick and choose Convert from Device Library. This replaces any OneLibrary that's already on it.

VirtualDJ and djay Pro only make OneLibrary. Their sticks work on the newest players, but show no playlists on a CDJ-3000 or older.

If you use rekordbox's play history

AlphaTheta suggests two settings so your history stays the same in both libraries. In Settings → DJ System → Device → History, turn on Import the play history automatically, and turn off Delete from the device after importing the play history. Playproof's tracklist uses this history too.
